Have I mentioned that I’m a normal, average, run of the mill person? I enjoy crafting, baking, and trying new things like many others. I have had my fair share (and some) of unsuccessful projects. Sometimes I get frustrated. Often times I am able to laugh at myself and do a mental 🤦 (#facepalm).
Several weeks ago I ran across a bottle cutter on Amazon. So naturally I read some reviews, watched a video and I was SOLD! The possibilities were endless. I could make decorative plant holders, candles, vases, etc. I honestly had these grandiose visions of the most magical candles in hand-cut wine bottles (in which I scored/cut myself). I would leave a portion of the wine label to add a bit of character and uniqueness. The images were so vivid and frankly, I was excited!
Nope! Not today or a month later. Complete fail!
The directions state to score the bottle once, then submerge into boiling water followed by an ice water bath. This would break the bottle along the scored line, but may require several repeats with the hot and cold baths until the bottle breaks. Define several. It is 5, 10, infinity?
This prompted me to read more reviews. One person said, score it several times. My husband says apply more pressure. Each time I am cringing as I am expecting the bottle to explode in my face! Of course, don't be silly. I am wearing appropriate protective gear—I’m not that crazy!
At this point I have tried cutting more than a dozen wine and beer bottles. As much as I would like to use bottle cutting as a reason to drink more wine, I can't keep up with my demands of my unsuccessful bottle cutting attempts. I am starting another stockpile of bottles and will do more research. Wish me luck!
P.S. If you have suggestions feel free to leave a comment :)
